Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. There are some issues, however, that prevent them from being our top option. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance. It's also prone to get stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.
It's still a great deal particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. Plus, it's very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad to a dry one in just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying dustbin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to provide better cleaning. The app allows you to customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.
When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be utilized to reach under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire home, and it did so with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a decent cleaning job on different rooms and floors with various kinds of flooring, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.
It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular design that looks much like a Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competitors. It's one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that has a perfect 10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It has an intuitive mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's an eerily noisy device which could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive, though it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally powerful and better-looking. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it's going to cost you more and produce more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time but this was not reliable in our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

It also has an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house depending on how dirty these areas tend to be.
If you have a larger home, it is worth selecting a robot that comes with spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stairway mode is useful if you own a lot furniture. For families that are busy, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very useful.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price suggests. It vacuums well, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a rotating motion that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self emptying base that can be washed.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app comes with a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It also has strong 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute little eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to be caught by low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
